Upgrading Guide

Due to uninstall JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro will restore your Joomla!/Mambo to its original stage, you can not do JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro upgrading like most other components do - uninstall existing component and then install new component. Upgrading for JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro component is almost same as upgrading your Joomla!/Mambo because sometimes we need to upgrade your Joomla!/Mambo core files as well.

Why upgrading JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro can cause problem to some users?
The reason is same to when you want to install JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro -- permission issue. Please refer to our installation guide for more details about the cause and file and directory permission.

Step by step guide to UPGRADE JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro

1) If you DO NOT HAVE permission denied problem upon your JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro installation, you can download the Patch Component Upgrading Package to upgrade your JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro. Nevertheless, if you DO HAVE permission denied problem upon your JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro installation, you should download Patch Files Upgrading Package to manually upgrade your JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro.

2) If you need to use Patch Files Upgrading Package to manually upgrade your JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro, please skip to the step 7. Or else if you use Patch Component Upgrading Package to upgrade your JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro, please make sure you have downloaded the correct package and contine to the next step.

3) Login to your Joomla!/Mambo backend as an Super Administrator and go to component installer page.

4) Under "Upload Package File" option, click on "Browse..." button. Select the patch component package file you had downloaded through the popup window and then press "Open" button. The popup window will be closed and you will return to the component installer page. Click on "Upload File & Install" button that beside the "Browse..." button to upload and install the patch component.

5) If you see a successful installation message (in GREEN color), you are DONE and you can uninstall the Patch Component. Or else please continue to the next step.

6) If you are here, most likely you are having permission denied problem and please go to the next step. If you are not having permission denied problem, please search for the possible solution through forum or follow the uninstallation guide to remove JACLPlus/MACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus Pro or contact our support personel for further assistance if you are our chartered member.

7) Okay, you have permission denied problem. You should fix the files and directories' permission first. Due to upgrading package might replace a lot of Joomla!/Mambo core files because it include Joomla!/Mambo upgrading patch files as well, it is nearly impossible to manually fix all the files and directories permission through FTP client or web hosting control panel's File Manager. However, we can make JACLPlus/MACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus Pro files and directories that were created by web server user upon the installation to be writable to FTP user through Joomla!/Mambo backend.

8) To make all JACLPlus/MACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus Pro files and directories writable to FTP user, you can use joomlaXplorer/mamboXplorer component. Please make the following directories (chmode 0777) and all their files (chmod 0666) writable to FTP user:
JACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro
components/com_jaclplus/
administrator/components/com_jaclplus/
MACLPlus/MACLPlus Pro
components/com_maclplus/
administrator/components/com_maclplus/

9) Extract all files in the patch files upgrading package to your local computer. Open the README.txt and read through it for additional necessary upgrading instructions.

10) Perform additional pre-upgrading steps as given in the README.txt.

11) Use FTP client to upload the new files to your server to replace all the existing old files.

12) Perform additional post-upgrading steps as given in the README.txt.

13) Play around with your Joomla!/Mambo frontend and backend pages to see any error occur. If you found any error, please search for the possible solution through forum or follow the uninstallation guide to remove JACLPlus/MACLPlus/JACLPlus Pro/MACLPlus Pro or contact our support personel for further assistance. Or else you are DONE .
