Docman in combination with JACLPlus question 2 Years, 12 Months ago

I'll probably know the answer already, but it's worth to ask to be sure.
I have a certain custom made group in JACLPlus like the following:
|-Customer |----Accounthandler
It's about the accounthandler group. These group I gave inherented editorrights.
Now we have more than one accounthandler. In Docman I want to accomplish, that all those accounthandlers can maintain the file.
Question: if I set the maintainer settings in Docman on 'editor', it probably won't work, because then he won't understand that he also should fetch the users with editor rights in another group than editor itself?

Hi jofel,
DOCMan use its own group management and we do not hack it as it is working fine with JACLPlus. You can create DOCMan groups to accomplish your need.

Hello. Am I to understand that your recommendation is to do create Docman groups to assign to the individual documents?
If so, then I'm assuming that there is no connection between the JACL groups and the Docman groups. We will have a somewhat large user_base_ (all registered users in JACL groups) and I'm concerned about the management headaches of having to put users in two different groups. I have seen posts elsewhere on the Joomla forums expressing the same concern. Is there any plans to bridge the two groups?
Thanks in advance!

Hi ryates,
Due to Joomla 1.0.x do not provide graceful ACL (limited user groups and fixed permission), most of the existing components are built without or with limited native Joomla user groups support. Same to gallery components, it is difficult to find a document control component that can support individual document access control. If we have time, we will hack the docman to make it support JACLPlus user groups. Remository 3.40 or above is another good choice, but it is not stable yet.

Hello there. I was just wondering if you had any additional thoughts on this topic? Is there a plan to hack docman groups to support JACLPlus groups to avoid duplicate effort in assigning users to groups? Thanks!
BTW - Keep up the good work with JACLPLus!

It's a shame that this topic looks to be dead, because you've really hit on something here!
Without the ability to have JACL user groups available in DocMan permissions, it really does render the whole idea of a patch to make it work kinda redundant!
You're still stuck with the basic Mambo/Joomla user access levels in order to set uploading/downloading/publishing permissions - every other group you set up in JACL just gets treated the same as 'all registered users'.
I know you can use the DocMan groups instead, but does anyone else want to add a couple of hundred users to a group.... by hand??
Not me, I'm afraid!

Any progress on this? I have more than 2200 members and more every day so I don't want to set individual permissions by user, as I get 30+ new users every day. Manual adding is not an option. Is there a better solution to integrate the 2? The patch available doesn't work in Joomla 1.0.12.
Frustrated!
